Kernow Conservation CIC
Category: Conservation
Our activities broadly fall into three main areas: habitat restoration & management, species reintroductions, and biodiversity monitoring.
Habitat restoration
Due to human activity, much of Cornwall’s native flora and fauna has been depleted, creating the need to restore and manage habitats important for these species to rebound and recolonise. Through partnering with landowners and other organisations and working with volunteers, we seek to improve the opportunities for these native species to thrive.
Species reintroductions
Changes in land use leading to habitat loss and fragmentation, coupled with direct persecution, has resulted in the absence of a number of species previously native to Cornwall. Under strict guidelines and licensing procedures, we are working to reintroduce some of these species to their former ranges.
Biodiversity monitoring
In order to protect and maintain our natural environment, it is important to measure current levels of biodiversity and understand how species are responding to man-made pressures. We use innovative techniques, combining modern technology with more traditional methods, for ongoing biodiversity monitoring in Cornwall.
